When the adults of the family
become the older generation, their needs change.
In today’s changing society, Adult Daycare
- or Adult Day Services, as it’s sometimes
called - can mean the difference in having a parent
nearby and committing their full-time care to
a nursing home. Typically, the adult center will
have recreation, therapy and meals, all in a controlled
environment.
These daytime programs can provide two important
services for families. If the caregiver needs
to work, the center can provide the equivalent
of day care for an older or developmentally disabled
adult on a regular basis. In some cases, the caregiver
simply needs an occasional respite. Faced with
the daunting task of caring for an adult’s
every need is wearing and the occasional day off
means the caregiver can be more effective.
But what abut the cost? Actually, some health
insurance policies will pay for services such
as these. If you have an adult in your life and
are in need of these services, check with your
insurance agent. If you know someone approaching
that age, consider amending an existing insurance
policy to include these services or take out an
additional policy.
